Fortunately, Sonic the Hedgehog's 3D creations have always been kept to a third-person perspective, allowing us to view the speeding creatures from a comfortable distance. And now a modder has released a vomit-inducing first-person mod that allows us to enjoy "Sonic Generations" from the perspective of a hedgehog.
Posted on Twitter over the weekend, Sonic modder Skyth warns that the following video will absolutely hurt your eyes.
Oops, this is a terrible video; Skyth's mod doesn't just zoom the camera in for a closer look, it matches every motion of Sonic's head. Even basic jumping is a stomach-churning experience, reminiscent of earlier attempts to bring "Mirror's Edge" to VR, but the mod is fortunately limited to the regular old screen.
Skyth has posted a link to download the mod in their reply and recommends turning off certain particle effects. He also points out that, for obvious reasons, the 2D segment of "Generations" is a bit awkward to navigate from a first-person perspective.
Nevertheless, Skyth warns those prone to motion sickness not to jump in: "I am absolutely not responsible for what happens to you, play at your own risk."
