Team Fortress 2 Reaches Record Number of Players with Anti-Bot Patch

Free-to-play shooter Team Fortress 2 set a new online player count for 2007, reaching 151,253 players by the evening of UTC. Today's count was similarly high, peaking at over 147,000 players online. This high level follows last December's record high.

The surge in players comes on the heels of a massive patch to combat the bots plaguing Team Fortress 2's lobbies. The same update introduced the Summer 2021 cosmetic case. This case has 18 new items and 6 new effects, all created by the TF2 community.

While this update seems to have broken a lot of TF2 server mods, it has been generally well received by the community: what may have been the most influential multiplayer shooter of the 21st century is not only available, but thriving into a new decade and It's nice to know that it will continue to do so.
