Todd Howard says "Starfield" is "a little more hardcore" than previous Bethesda RPGs

In the last 24 hours, we've learned more about Starfield than we have in three years. Yesterday at E3, we finally got our first look at the teaser trailer for Starfield, which gave us a lot of interesting details to puzzle out (including perhaps a hint about The Elder Scrolls 6).

And today, Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard revealed more information about the space RPG in a new interview with The Telegraph.

"It's also a role-playing game that's a little more hardcore than anything we've done before," Howard said. It's got a really great character system, where you get to pick your backgrounds and stuff like that." It's going back to what we used to do with games, where the player can express the character they want to be.

While this is not a good specific explanation for why this is a more hardcore RPG than past Bethesda games, it is still, for fans who sometimes criticize games like "Fallout 4" for having a more limited role-playing system than earlier games in the series This may be welcome news.

Howard also confirmed that, like "Skyrim" and "Fallout," "Starfield" is a first-person and third-person game, and players can choose which perspective they prefer. Also like "Skyrim" and "Fallout," "Starfield" has a larger storyline and the freedom to set it aside and immerse oneself in other activities. If you just want to pass the time and watch the sunset or pick flowers, it's rewarding in that sense as well."

"The story is also very interesting,"

and "Starfield" is "a story about the way people live their lives and how they live their lives.

Howard also spoke of how futuristic Starfield's technology looks, but not so much that it is unrecognizable to players. He said, "But it does have a connection to the current space program. In your mind, you can draw a line between the two."

And then there are the aliens in Starfield. Not alien creatures or creatures as in the concept art, but actual alien races. However, it appears that other humans will not be the only ones encountered and interacted with as they explore the galaxy in Starfield.
