The "Diablo 4" battle pass is a mess, and you don't even get enough platinum to buy one item.

Those who were eager to buy cosmetics in the store will be disappointed when they see the platinum allowance for Diablo 4's Battle Pass: instead of offering a practical amount of premium currency, Blizzard has offered a joke: 666 platinum. Oh, you cheeky devil. But the real joke is that 666 platinum is not even enough to buy the cheapest item in the store.

Naturally, players are unimpressed; all Blizzard is selling now is nostalgia," one player wrote. And no small number of comparisons have been made between "Diablo 4" and "Diablo Immortal".

While there are many problems with the broader Battle Pass model, many Battle Passes justify their existence and cost by providing enough currency to do a little shopping or purchase the next Battle Pass. If you take the time to finish, you'll get your money back and save for the future. But that is not the case here, and 666 platinum is not enough to cover the cost of the Season 2 Battle Pass.

As it stands, the only real use for the platinum is to purchase the Battle Pass tier, which will only hasten the journey to the course, unless one wants to save it up for a later purchase after earning more platinum in the second season.

Another problem is that Smouldering Ashes, the currency that unlocks season bonuses including XP buffs, is level limited. Even if you unlock this currency at the pass, you cannot actually use it to select season bonuses until you reach the required level. For example, if you want the XP-boosting "Advancing Jar," you have to wait until you reach 62. Apparently, it is impossible to escape the grind. Several of the seasonal goals also seem to be buggy; they do not recognize that they have been achieved, and rewards are not handed out.

Diablo 4 is not a free game that uses microtransactions to get by, but a very popular premium game that is very, very stingy. At least now I feel a little better about cramming in after finally unlocking the horse.
