Star Wars Outlaws" story trailer will be released next week

Star Wars fans, brace yourselves: a new trailer for Ubisoft's upcoming Star Wars Outlaws will be released on April 9.

Ubisoft describes the reveal as a "story trailer world premiere," which is interesting because the world premiere trailer, which at least gives an overview of the story, was released in 2023: Kay Vess is a villain, freighter owner, non-English speaking furry creature friend, is caught in a war between the Empire and the Rebellion, and is trying to get out of a bad situation. Star Wars.

The new trailer is expected to reveal a bit more about what kind of trouble Kay will get into, who she will be dealing with in her adventure, why the people in the cantina are firing on her, and what her "way out" of whatever trouble she gets into.

Yes, from what I've seen so far, it's safe to say that "Star Wars Outlaws" looks extremely derivative, as this series tends to be. However, I am hopeful that it will find its own way, much like Brian Daley's Han Solo adventure novels, which I loved. Admittedly, I was 12 at the time, and the trailer for "Star Wars Outlaws" will feature both Imperial and Rebel forces, so I doubt it will deviate as far from the familiar core canon as Daley did. But still, here's hoping that next week's trailer will depict something at least a little different.

Even if the smuggler storyline is familiar, expect "Outlaw" to stand out in its worldview. Based on the spacious environments of last year's guided demo, "Outlaws" is a full-fledged sandbox game and is likely more open than 2023's "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor." It is also a Star Wars game in which the Jedi are not the main characters. [More on that next week: a story trailer for "Star Wars Outlaws" will be available on YouTube on April 9 at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET.
