Bungie's first blockbuster, the Marathon, is now free on Steam thanks to the revival of fans who have Bungie's blessing

Bungie's first real shooter hit, Marathon, Classic Marathon, modern Har Classic Marathon as a fan-driven port to have Bungie's blessing to release, is completely free, easy to play the classic game, but also to hunt old copies and spend to fight with compatibility. Time Zero

Marathon is a sci-fi FPS in which your character is responsible for fighting alien forces that have boarded human colonial ships in the distant Tau Ceti system. Your task is to defend the ship and the marathon crows, but the discord between the artificial intelligence that runs the ship and the factionalism between the alien attackers

of the plot having a whole plot is a pretty big new one for a first-person shooter in 1994, when Bungee first released the marathon. It was a great experience. Alongside System Shock of the same year, Marathon pioneered the idea of giving stories through characters you can talk to and environmental objects you read. It also pioneered a campaign of cooperative first-person shooters, Port still has, and even when Bungee later made 1 in Halo

This re-release is powered by an open source engine called aleph One, which allows fans to keep Marathon for about 10 years. We have been using it to help you get the most out of your life. It allows them to have some real fidelity to the original, but also features you definitely did not have in 1994.

"Experience real gameplay using the original data files, with optional widescreen HUD support, 3D filtering/perspective, position audio and 60+fps interpolation in case the original is too real," says the Aleph One developer.

You can find the Classic Marathon on Steam for free. There are also Classic Marathon 2 and Classic Marathon Infinity pages that will be released in the future.

Bungie is about to reboot the series as an extraction shooter in the near future, so the debut of the classic game on Steam is quite timely.

"A giant ghost ship hangs in low orbit over the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV," the Marathon website states, setting the stage for the background of the game's story.

"The 30,000 souls who call this place home have disappeared without a trace," runs the pitch for a reboot. "The strange signals suggest mysterious artifacts, long dormant AI, and a treasure trove of untold wealth. You are a runner and challenge the unknown in a battle for fame and notoriety. Who among you will write your name across the stars?"When you play the original, I'm sure you'll see some familiar ideas and names trimmed.
