One of Larian Studio's next games has the code name—Excalibur, but "If we're brutally honest, we're trying to figure out what it is."

Larian Studios is moving to 3 new Rpgs instead of 1 after a huge success at Baldur's Gate 2 — and one of that Rpgs has an exciting code name: Excalibur.

At this year's Digital Dragons conference, Larian co-founder and CEO Swen Vincke revealed the working title of the project. Dear readers, I hope you can tell us more about it, but after all, it's still something Swen Vincke and his team are still working on.

"If we're brutally honest, we're trying to figure out what it is," Vincke said in a recent interview with Hubert Sosnowski and Adam Zechenter of Gamepressure. "It's a holiday," said Adam Smith, Larian's writing director."If someone at Larian at this point tells you this is what the game is going to be," Vincke adds, "they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, they're lying, They don't know because we're trying a whole bunch of things. We have ideas, but we are a repetitive company. So we repeat. We are trying things out. We are experimenting.

As Vincke frankly discusses the sense of aftershocks that create one of the best RPGs of the decade, some tentative (and I really mean tentative) Hin "We've been experiencing a roller coaster of emotions and decisions. I don't think you can predict what will happen. Our ambition is certainly to do better...Let's see where it goes what can happen around you that can affect the outcome of your development.

Most interestingly, Vincke was asked about the studio's repetitive experiments, saying, "I love turn-based strategies, but I'm not shy about action."Again, it's not confirmed anything at all, but the idea that Larian Studios is at least, creatively, showing a curiosity about making something outside of turn-based bailiwick is fascinating to me.

Still, Vincke points out:"You will have to wait and see...We are trying something. You don't want to keep making the same thing."

Personally, I have complex feelings about the (highly hypothetical) prospect of an action RPG from Larian—I think people who rally against turn-based games are a bit silly, especially because I enjoy all of the mechanical details and tactical options that go into wrestling order of initiative. Live Action-Pause Crpg never really hit me the same way.

On the other hand, Larian would not be Larian without a dash of innovation. Part of what makes Baldur's Gate3 so spectacular is that it feels like a real step-up to the CRPG genre - usually fully animated with Bioware-style conversations, what they're doing next, I'm on board.
