Hatsune Miku Returns to Magic: The Gathering

Hatsune Miku, the only Vocaloid anyone can name, is such a big star that along with celebrities like Godzilla and the cast of The Walking Dead, she appears in Magic: The Gathering's new art-designed bundle of reskinned cards (called the Secret Lair Drop) In the past, the company has been known for its "secret lair" cards, which are.

And not just once. Following the spring-themed Hatsune Miku set that inspired Ellie Gould to start collecting Magic cards, there will be a summer-themed set as well.

It's called "Secret Hideout x Hatsune Miku": it contains six cards themed around the "Child of Alara" from the 2009 release of "Conflux" and is called "Song Child Miku."

You also get a new version of "Diabolic Tutor," "Chords of Evocation," "Song of Creation," "Thespian Stage," and a "Sol Ring" card that looks like Miku is reaching for Sonic the Hedgehog's gold ring. (I preferred the "Fallout" themed version. The ring was depicted as a ring of light when the Vault door was broken. Clever!")

Fans of Hatsune Miku are sure to help this secret rare drop just like the first one, regardless of what it actually has on it; it goes on sale June 24 at 9 a.m. PT and will be available until July 14 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

Magic's next full crossover will be "Assassin's Creed," a set featuring cards that are literally a haystack. The current non-themed expansion is Modern Horizons 3, which fascinated me, as I do not normally play the Modern format.
