We all like free games, and AMD is offering up to two games for free when you buy a Radeon RX 7800 XT or Radeon RX 7700 XT at a good retailer.

Well, spending hundreds of dollars, or pounds, on a new graphics card kind of broadens the scope of what "free" actually means, but the choice of games on offer is well worth it. Purchasing one of the aforementioned graphics cards at an eligible retailer (check the list here) will give you a choice of two of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Starfield, Lies of P, or Company of Heroes 3.

The first is a typical Ubisoft open world, but a graphical tour de force, perfect for showing off the capabilities of a new GPU; "Starfield" also looks very beautiful at times, but only if you like to stare into the stark coldness of space; "Lies of P Lies of P" is like the PC version of "Bloodborne," but not bad if you like "Souls"-style games.

I like WWII-based RTS games, so "Company of Heroes 3" would be my first choice. But enough about games. What really matters is which graphics card is worth buying.

Well, the Radeon RX 7800 XT seems the obvious choice, as it is by far the best $500 graphics card you can buy right now, with 60 compute units, 16GB of VRAM, and 624GB/s of memory bandwidth for 1440p games. It is a bit of a devil. [Averaging these tests, the RX 7800 XT is 6% faster than its predecessor, the RX 6800 XT, and 16% faster than the RX 7700 XT. For some games, the difference is much larger, especially when RDNA 3's dual ALU shaders come into play, as in Metro Exodus. [At the moment, however, the RX 7800 XT is about $100 more expensive than the RX 7700 XT, but you are paying 26% more for an average performance increase of only 16%, making the RX 7800 XT appeal is somewhat diminished.

Most PC gamers who buy a new graphics card expect it to last for years, and the RX 7800 XT's greater amount of VRAM means that it will perform better than the RX 7700 XT in future graphically demanding games. Meaning.

You should also consider what resolution you normally game at; at 1080p, the RX 7700 XT should be sufficient unless your goal is to maximize frame rates in competitive shooters. AMD's FSR 3 upscaler and frame generation system will also be able to handle 4K games.

AMD's Game Bundle promotion runs through July 20, with coupon codes available until August 17. Unfortunately, residents of Japan can only purchase one of those games, while others can purchase two. However, remember to purchase the RX 7800 XT or RX 7700 XT at one of the participating retailers.
