WB Games Promises Suicide Squad to Complete Currently Announced Roadmap

Suicide Squad: Take down the Justice League! was released earlier this year and was a huge flop. Currently, according to SteamDB, 161 people are playing the game on Steam, and while this is not the whole picture - "Suicide Squad" is also available on Xbox and PlayStation - it is certainly not a sign of good things to come.

The continued near-basement player numbers have led to fears that WB Games will do what Redfall did and pull the plug on the upcoming update. From a business standpoint, it's a not unreasonable suggestion: there's no need to invest the (probably large) amount of money it takes to produce a year's worth of content for a few hundred (or even a few thousand) rabid fans.

But apparently that's the plan: a representative from WB Games told Kotaku that "Suicide Squad will complete the currently announced roadmap."

That roadmap includes three more post-launch seasons (the first season featuring the Joker has already been released) with three new playable characters, three new environments, and various weapons, gear sets, activities, and other content in between. Included.

While this is good news for "Suicide Squad" players, it does not ooze enthusiasm for the future, nor does it hint at its potential. Rather, it is a reluctant admission that promises are made to be kept. Which, in some cases, is more than we get.

WB Games reportedly lost $200 million on "Suicide Squad". But this also shines a (different) spotlight on the essential Achilles heel of live-service games: without a hit, all the big promises for the future are just ink on paper, and the fact that you spent $60+ in hopes of a long and fruitful future means nothing in practice There is no such thing.

As a business owner, you might argue that shutting it all down is the smart thing to do, but as a fan of the game in range, it really sucks: Sharkmob's announcement that "Vampire: The Masquerade - Sharkmob is When they announced the end of development on "Bloodhunt," I finally had a battle royale I liked! I was really disappointed. It's still a great game, but I was completely disappointed to learn that the promised storyline would not evolve any further.

So, rest assured, Suicide Squadders: your game will live on for the next 9 months or so. However, don't expect too much beyond that.
