FIFA will host the real Rocket League World Cup complete with the national team

FIFA, the World football governing body, has announced that it will partner with the Rocket League to add rocket-powered vehicles to play football games to this year's FIFA esports (FIFAe) World Cup. The event was announced on x (formerly Twitter) and the FIFA esports account asked which country fans would like to see compete.

In a press release, FIFAe called this "a major step in FIFA's commitment to embrace the entire ecosystem and drive global growth in football esports globally."FIFAe is aware that despite jet-driven cars and huge balls and silly hats, the fictional sport of Rocket League is an official relative of football Around 2015, paid to an uncomfortable armchair taxonomist who says Rocket League "is not football" on social media.

I'm not bitter or anything, I like to win arguments with uncomfortable pedants. Even if it is almost a decade behind.

Teams from selected countries will be 1 player with 3 substitutes and compete in the colors of their country. 16 countries will be selected based on the number of representatives they have put in previous Rocket league majors, which seems sensible enough.

The Selected Participating Members Association will hold its own qualification tournament to select players representing their country at the FIFAe World Cup. Potential players can sign up for FIFA's esports platform and choose Rocket League as the game of their choice at the following locations:FIFA.GG FIFA

FIFA says they will announce more information about the event and which associations will participate at a later date.
