The Embracer is closed alone in a dark studio piece interactive

Pieces Interactive, the developer of Alone in The Dark reboot, launched earlier this year, was shut down by parent company Embracer Group.

Words of closure came via Pieces Interactive's Twitter feed, which posted an image containing the studio logo and the message "Pieces Interactive: 2007-2024. Thanks for playing with us."

The studio's website now carries the same image as well as a long message detailing the studio's history since its establishment in 2007. "In 2017, Pieces Interactive was acquired by Embracer Group after working with Titan Quest: Ragnarök, an extension of Titan Quest, and Titan Quest: Atlantis, the 3rd extension of Titan Quest," the message states. "Our last release was reimagining alone in the dark."

Pieces Interactive's Alone in The Dark reboot was a good one. We call it "an intellectual re-imagining of the 1992 classic," with 76% of reviews offering the best in the dark game since 1992, despite its over-reliance on bugs and occasional combat.

Nevertheless, the game apparently didn't seem to sell much. Embracer's full-year 2023-24 financial report states that Alone in The Dark's sales are "softer than expected" and "below management's expectations."

Embracer's THQ Nordic division confirmed that Pc Gamer and Pieces Interactive were closed, but declined to comment further.

The closure comes just three days after Galvanic Games announced its own closure due to insufficient sales of its latest release, "Wizard with a Gun."
