DRDR, Frank's news is: Capcom announces Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

In 2006, freelance photojournalist Frank West flew into our minds from a helicopter on a lonely mission to uncover the scoop on the mysterious zombie infestation ravaging the Willamette, Colorado area. Sure, he may have been trapped in a shopping mall with a horde of the undead for three days, but don't underestimate Frank. Soon, Frank's best 72 hours will come to life again in Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered, which Capcom announced today.

The teaser trailer release for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster does not give many details other than promising an "updated release with a brand new look." It is part of the original game's opening, showing Frank in a helicopter approaching the now-fabled Willamette Parkview Mall, with updated visuals. Frank's look is phenomenal - Dead Rising 4 gave him the unforgivable visual overhaul of an action hero, but DRDR returns Frank West to his original everyman appearance. Frank West should not look like a heroic badass. Frank West wears a terrible jacket, and Widder's Peak is in progress.

Fortunately, Frank in "DRDR" looks mediocre, as God intended. However, Dead Rising fans in the comments of the teaser trailer are disappointed in his voice. While there is no official casting confirmation, the brief voice acting heard in the teaser has convinced some that TJ Rotolo, who was Frank's English voice actor until Dead Rising 4, will not be playing Frank in the remastered version. It pains me to think that we may never hear the Frank of my youth sighing with relief after chugging down the orange juice I picked up for my health, but I guess I'll have to find a way to make it through.

The teaser doesn't give away a release date or any details about Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered, so we can only speculate as to whether anything other than graphics will be updated. Just seeing the abandoned stores and boardwalks of the Willamette Mall faithfully recreated in modern visuals is more than enough, though. As long as I can wear a servbot's head while beating zombies with a 2×4, I'll be happy with that.
