Asus Announces NUC Competitor with Built-in AMD Ryzen and Radeon Hardware

Asus introduces a line of mini-PCs that are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand (see image above) and powerful enough to handle lightweight gaming.

The new PN50 series of mini-PCs is built around AMD's Ryzen 4000 mobile processor, which is a big draw. CPUs) and the onboard graphics are Vega-based.

Ryzen 4000 chips are essentially APUs (Accelerated Processing Units), a term AMD no longer uses.

Asus offers its new mini-PCs in four different processor options: the Ryzen 5 4300U (4C/4T), Ryzen 5 4500U (6C/6T), Ryzen 7 4700U (8C/8T), and Ryzen 7 4800U (8C/16T). 8 core/16 threads, the 4800U is the most attractive top-of-the-line configuration, as it has enough firepower to tackle a wide variety of tasks.

Also in the mobile graphics arena, the top iteration of Vega comes with eight compute units. While playing triple-A games at the highest settings is not a reasonable expectation, lightweight titles (e.g., Counter-Strike: Go and League of Legends) are well served.

These mini-PCs support up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM (two SO-DIMM slots) and can accommodate two storage drives (M.2 and 2.5" SATA).

Connectivity options are also quite extensive. On the wireless side, this little unit is powered by an Intel Wi-Fi 6 chip. On the wired side, the front I/O has a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port, a USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A port, audio jacks, and a 3-in-1 card reader. On the back, there is another USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port, two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports, a GbE LAN port, and an HDMI 2.0 output.

The new mini-PCs are available for pre-order on Amazon UK, priced from £274.98 to £499.98. Depending on the model, they will be available on September 7 or September 21.
