Intel Trademarks "Intel Evo Powered By Core" CPU... Could this be Alder Lake?

A number of new Intel logos have appeared in the Justia Trademarks database. Aside from whatever marketing firm paid the big bucks to come up with the simple little design on the back of a napkin, it's not that interesting in and of itself. What is possible, however, is the possibility of a new Intel Evo series... Is this Alder Lake?

I invite you to join me in these wild speculation corners. Let's see if we can stick a Polaroid photo on the board and tie a string between them.

These new Intel image trademarks (via @momo_us) were filed a few days ago; remember when AMD trademarked Kyzen?

But there is something about the Intel Evo image that makes me think there is a meaning to it: the combination of the name "Evo," the big square and the little square, and the tag "Powered by Core" makes me wonder what new products Intel has in store for us! . A simple rebranding of the Intel Core processor series to Intel Evo is unlikely to me, given that they are keeping the "Core" name for reference. [But what if the Core architecture is included in the Evo CPU along with something else?

That's what the upcoming Intel Alder Lake platform, expected to arrive in late 2021, will offer. It will definitely happen, as it has already been benchmarked. Make no mistake, AlderLake will use Intel hybrid technology pioneered by the Lakefield CPU design, combining Intel's high-power Core CPU cores with lower-specification, lower-power Atom cores in the oft-cited big.LITTLE configuration. Plans.

Big.LITTLE is a style of processor design originally created by ARM (we have to use the big.LITTLE style, it's LAW) that combines a low-power core with a high-speed core. The idea is that high-performance cores are not very efficient when performing simpler computing operations that can be performed by cores designed to run at lower power consumption.

It is speculated that in Alder Lake, the top-end chips will match eight advanced Golden Cove cores with eight modern Gracemont Atom cores. This would be an evolution of the current Core CPU design and would be consistent with the Evo nomenclature possibility. [I am attracted to the possibility of this big.LITTLE configuration partly because it is genuinely different from the chip giant, and partly because I enjoy writing big.LITTLE things that upset Alan.

Intel must see something in this design. Certainly. Otherwise, it could be Intel's own Bulldozer; what else could it be but Evo Powered By Core?" wrote PCG Towers' Speculation Corner, on the back of a postcard addressed to Dave.
