G4 Announces Surprise Comeback

G4, the hip tech TV station that went off the air in 2014, may be coming back. A teaser tweeted from G4's suddenly active Twitter account takes viewers to a virtual warehouse where relics of the network's past are stored, then interrupts the long-running Pong game with the G4 logo and an image of "2021."

G4 began in 2002 and focused on video game news, reviews, and competitions, forming a kind of proto-esports scene, with Jessica Chobot, Allison Haislip, Jeff Keely, Olivia Munn, Kevin Pereira, Adam Seth Sessler, and Morgan Webb, among others, served as emcees. Although it was a candle that burned brightly, the traditional television show was highly unsuitable for online audiences and ceased operations at the end of 2014 after multiple mergers and ownership changes.

There is no indication as to how it will make a comeback, but a return to the living room set is unlikely. However, a streaming series on Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook makes sense; "X-Play," one of the shows that aired on G4, could also return in some form, tweeting the same thing from a previously suspended account

At the very least, this could be the case.

One person who apparently has not been involved, at least up to this point, is Sessler, who hosted X-Play from 1998 to 2012. He described the G4 comeback tweet posted by IGN as a "strange development" and expressed surprise at the activity from the X-Play account.

No further information has been forthcoming from G4 since the tweet, but we are keeping an eye out and will update as information becomes available.
