Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games working on 3D project

Yacht Club Games, which has been designing tricky 2D action platformers like "Shovel Knight" and "Cyber Shadow" for years, is gearing up for its first 3D project. [Interestingly, however, this is for a "new 3D project" and they are building a new engine with a 3D team.

Unfortunately, there is nothing in this list to suggest what the new projects are other than 3D. With their experience in action platformers, it's a safe bet that another one is in the works, but the Shovel Knights spin-off has a multiplayer fighter, and in Shovel Knight they designed a card game: King of Cards, a card He designed the game "Joustus".

Shovel Knight is 2D, but actually has a 3D engine. When Yacht Club started working on this game, the studio was not set in its mind what kind of game it wanted to make. As such, the art is all 2D, but it all exists in a large 3D space that you will never see unless you watch the video below, in which the developers reveal their tricks to YouTuber Shesez.

Meanwhile, the 2D team is working on a sequel to Shovel Knight: Dig, in collaboration with Nitrome. In this game, the protagonist will tunnel through an underground world to retrieve stolen loot, pitting him against sticky-fingered drill knights. No release date has been set, and so far only the Switch version has been announced.

Cheers, Gamespot.
