27" VA monitor with 144Hz refresh rate is a bargain at $250

Monoprice is my go-to vendor for a wide variety of cables, but if I were in the market for a gaming monitor, I would take a long hard look at this 27" VA display (2560x1440), Monoprice's newest addition to their lineup (successor to the TN model) and priced at an aggressive $249.99. It is aggressive at $249.99. Also, it was out of stock for several weeks, but is now available.

This is a curved display with a curvature of 1500R. I am rather indifferent between curved and flat displays, but if you like curved displays, go ahead.

Even more attractive is the VA panel; Newegg offers similar specs with Pixio's PX278, but it's made with a TN screen and costs $299.99. If you want to step into name-brand territory, Viewsonic's VX2758-2KP-MHD is also $299.99 and uses an IPS screen, but is out of stock; Acer's Nitro VG270U is similar, at $359.99.

In other words, Monoprice has the edge over its competitors; Monoprice is not a well-known brand in the monitor field, but the listing notes that this panel is made by Samsung (LSM270DP02).

In addition to the VA screen, this monitor boasts a fast 144Hz refresh rate, FreeSync support, and DisplayHDR 400 certification. Monoprice does not list a peak brightness, but says the typical brightness level is 400 nits. HDR is LCD displays shine (literally) at 1,000 nits, so buying this just for the HDR is not recommended.

The rest of the specs are fine, as there is no such caveat. Simply put, no monitor with the same features as this one can beat this price.
