Netgear's XR300 gaming router is now $150.

A stable, low-latency Internet connection is key to a great online gaming experience, and the router you choose can have a huge impact on your multiplayer game play. Thankfully, one of the best gaming routers, the Netgear XR300 Nighthawk Pro, is on sale for $50 less than the original MSRP.

The Netgear XR300 may seem a bit pricey for a router even at the discounted price, but it is loaded with features. It has three external antennas for better connectivity, four gigabit LAN ports, and support for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz network broadcasts (so all devices can connect at the highest possible speed). As with all gaming products, there is an LED light on top, but it can be turned off.

Other features include a built-in VPN server (allowing users to connect to their home network from anywhere in the world), denial of service (DoS) attack prevention, a network monitor and gaming dashboard, and the ability to create network attached storage via the front USB port.

The main drawback of this router is that it only supports the common Wi-Fi 5 standard (better known as 802.11ac) and not the newer Wi-Fi 6 protocol, which offers higher potential speeds. This is not much of an issue at this time, as few devices on the market today can connect to Wi-Fi 6 networks, but it does mean that this router is not as future-proof as other alternatives (such as the TP-Link AX1800).
