When "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" was first released, it featured a distinctive gold filter that made everything shine as if it were wrapped in Ferrero Rocher wrapping paper. This was a controversial feature, with some saying that the black and gold palette was a valid artistic choice and a distinctive look. Others said that everything appeared to be made of bumblebees.

When the director's cut was released, initially as a WiiU exclusive (a fact I had forgotten until today), the gold filter was cut and remained absent from the PC version. Until a modder called Silent did the work to bring it back.

You may be familiar with Silent from patches for "Scarface" and early 3D games like "GTA". He also contributed to the Silent Hill 2 Enhanced project.

As you can see from his blog on the subject, getting the gold filter version to work in "Deus Ex: Human Revolution-Director's Cut" was not as simple as flipping a switch marked "make everything shiny!" It was not. Many changes were made to the lighting between the two versions, and Silent's patch even manages to fix some of them, which are clearly mistakes.

The patches can be downloaded from Github. If you want to see a side-by-side comparison, here you go.
