Newegg has reduced the price of its Asus 4K monitor to $270. This is $60 less than the Amazon price, which currently sells for $330. The term "gaming monitor" may be a bit of an exaggeration.

This is a TN panel, the least expensive of the three common types, but the best performer in terms of speed (1ms response time) and motion blur reduction. As a trade-off, VA and IPS panels offer better viewing angles and color gamut.

Currently, the sweet spot for gaming is 1440p at 144Hz on mid- to high-end hardware. For proper 4K gaming, you need a fairly powerful GPU, and we recommend 60Hz or higher, at least 120Hz, especially if you are using ray tracing. Running games well at higher refresh rates is, in our opinion, a better experience than running less than 60 fps at 4K.

That said, if 4K is really important for video or other purposes, Asus is a reliable brand, and this is already a good price for an inexpensive 4K display. Another option is the BenQ EL2870U. This is another great budget 4K monitor with HDR. The only problem is that unlike this Asus model, BenQ does not offer the option to put the monitor into portrait mode and does not allow any rotation.

If you care about image quality, invest in an IPS display. And if you want something a little more expensive but still suitable for gaming, ASUS' ROG Swift PG279Q is the best gaming monitor available today.
