GDC 2020 Developer Speeches and IGF Awards to be Streamed Online

After postponing this year's Game Developer's Conference two weeks ago due to health concerns over the spread of the coronavirus, the conference's organizers have announced that two key parts of the show will continue as originally planned.

Over the course of next week (March 16-20), the GDC Twitch channel will stream a series of pre-recorded talks that were scheduled to take place at the physical conference One of the best parts of GDC is that it's a great place to learn about creative methods and philosophies, new technologies, recent games and classic games This is because there is a spread of panels for developers that offer insight into the development of recent and classic games.

Naturally, not all of the talks scheduled for the GDC will be streamed online, and the GDC has not yet finalized the schedule. view.

"In addition, all of the streamed GDC 2020 talks will be available for free on the GDC Vault and will also be posted on a number of GDC's YouTube channels in the coming weeks and months," the announcement reads.

Another great part of GDC is the IGF and Choice Awards, which honor independent games from the previous year. It's like the Sundance Film Festival of the gaming world. The fate of the awards ceremony was up in the air in the aftermath of GDC's cancellation, but we now know that it will be held as scheduled on March 18 at 5 p.m. PDT.

Starting at 4 p.m., one hour before the awards ceremony, the GDC will also stream a "virtualized" version of the "Day of the Devs" showcase.

Last week I spoke with many indie developers who are struggling to recoup the thousands of dollars they spent on travel, lodging, and miscellaneous expenses to attend GDC, and it's clear that GDC's sudden cancellation has left a big hole, so it's nice to know that at least part of the show will still take place.
