This sturdy-looking case from Asus is literally strapped down for some reason

Asus continues to gradually add to its lineup of PC cases, the latest being the TUF Gaming GT301, a compact mid-tower designed to be carried to LAN parties. Just don't try to lift it by the fabric straps on the front: apparently they are for decorative purposes only.

There are three eyelets on each side to thread the strap through, allowing the strap to be tied in multiple ways. Think of it like tying shoelaces if your shoes only had six eyelets in total.

"They can be zig-zagged, laced left to right, or laced diagonally," Asus explains.

So that's different. Of course, if you don't care for the strap style, you can also remove the strap. We have not seen this case in person, but removing the straps might improve airflow a bit. The straps are placed in front of the honeycomb panel, behind which three 120mm addressable RGB fans draw cool air into the case. A 120mm exhaust fan is also mounted on the back.

For storage, the GT301 has four 2.5" bays and two bays that accommodate both 3.5" and 2.5" drives. Thus, up to six 2.5" drives can be installed when the 3.5" drives are not in full use.

The case measures 426 (L) x 214 (W) x 482 (H) mm and weighs 7.2 kg (just under 16 lbs.). While it is naturally heavier if you pack a lot of components inside, the overall dimensions are not unwieldy for those who want to carry their desktops to LAN parties. However, there are no handles, and the front panel comes off, so don't try to carry it by the front strap.

Yes, Asus definitely had LAN parties in mind when they designed this chassis.

"Clips on the sides of the case keep mouse and keyboard wires tidy while preventing peripherals from being tampered with during LAN parties. An optional headphone hook is included to prevent your favorite gaming headphones from getting buried in desk clutter," Asus said.

Asus actually introduced the GT301 at last year's Computex, stating at the time that it would be available in the US for $79.99 during 2019. No specific release date has been set yet, but the product finally has a product page.
