Classic Indie RPG "Geneforge" Remastered

Spiderweb Software is back on Kickstarter to fund its next RPG, and the indie company, founded by Jeff Vogel in 1994, has consistently delivered complex and liberating RPGs. But they've been great, and the next installment will revisit one of the most unusual: Geneforge."

Geneforge is a sci-fi fantasy hybrid of magic and science, with opposing factions, open-ended quests, and plenty of player choices. You can also control an army of mutant monsters, spread across five games, all still playable today, but what was somewhat dated in 2001 is even harder to get into in 2020.

The remastered version will be closer to 2020 with an improved interface, graphics, and design, according to the Kickstarter page. Vogel does not plan any major changes to the storyline, but hopes to introduce new characters and storylines, as well as new abilities and game systems.

While he hopes that all of Geneforge's work will be remastered, the Kickstarter is only for the first film, Mutagen. The Kickstarter page states. 'Remastering the five games in the Geneforge saga will take years. But this is one of our most beloved series, there is a huge demand for it, and we are excited to begin the journey with Geneforge 1."

Spiderweb Software is seeking $30,000 in funding, a goal that looks likely to be met; the Kickstarter just started today and is already nearly halfway there; if they reach $50,000, with the help of all backers, a new endgame Mutant Monsters will be designed; at $75,000, a new multi-zone region with new characters, quests, and loot will be launched.

This is the studio's second Kickstarter, following the successful "Queen's Wish" campaign in 2018.Geneforge 1 - Mutagen has an estimated release date of February 2021, but as with all Kickstarter distribution dates, a grain of salt need to take it with a grain of salt.
