According to the latest box art released on Square Enix's website, the timed exclusivity deadline for the Final Fantasy 7 remake on PlayStation has been changed to April 2021. This makes some sense, considering that Square Enix recently announced that they need more time to produce the game and will not be able to meet the original March 3, 2020 release date. The new release date is April 10, 2020, exactly one year before the timed exclusivity ends.

Twinfinite was the first to notice this subtle change, but since FF7 was a PlayStation exclusive for a full year before being released on other platforms, it makes sense that the deadline was pushed back. Just because "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will end its exclusivity on April 10, 2021, does not necessarily mean that Square Enix plans to release it on the same date. After all, "Final Fantasy 15" came to PC nearly a year and a half after its console debut.

Of course, this only matters if you are the type of person who has an iron will to wait for a console exclusive title to eventually make its way to PC. I am not one of those people, so I have already committed to buying it on PS4 - especially after seeing the latest trailer.

I haven't paid much attention to the game's development, but earlier this week Square Enix released a lengthy gameplay trailer showcasing most of the FF7 remake's story (including Cloud's infamous cross-dressing scene), and it looks great. So far, I like all the ways Square has modernized the classic game, and as someone who enjoyed the combat in FF15, I also like the more action-RPG approach. Watch the trailer below.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released on PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020.
