Royal Mail Honors Great British Games by Means of Stamps

Commemorative stamps are something of a British tradition. Of course, other countries issue commemorative stamps as well, but we love them. They are a kind of distraction that we live for. Past collections have included Star Wars, David Bowie, James Bond, and other cultural giants.

There are eight stamps in total, each featuring a classic video game developed in the UK: Elite, Sensible Soccer, Whip Out, Dizzy, Worms, Lemmings, Micro Machines, and Populous. A Tomb Raider stamp is also available, as Lara Croft is one of the most popular exports to come out of the UK.

All are very attractive and it is nice to see that the British Royal Family considers video games a real cultural value. The stamps will go on sale on January 21, but avid stamp collectors can pre-order them now.

"The UK has been at the forefront of the video game industry for decades," Royal Mail spokesman Philip Parker told The Guardian. 'In the 1980s and '90s, young designers took to coding on new microcomputers and set the template for the industry with their iconic games. We celebrate some of their groundbreaking work with stamps."

If the series is successful, might we suggest that the Royal Family release a collection of stamps based on PC games? I have a few ideas.
