Gollum in Daedalic's New Lord of the Rings Game 'Doesn't Look Like Andy Serkis'

In March 2019, Daedalic Entertainment announced The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, an action-adventure game set in JRR Tolkien's famous fantasy realm. Nothing was said about the game itself, except that it "tells the story of Gollum from an unprecedented perspective while remaining faithful to the legendary book." However, the latest issue of Edge magazine reveals more details about what is to come, including that the lead character will not look like he does in Peter Jackson's film.

"I don't want to offend people who have only seen the movie," he said. But the bottom line is, he doesn't look like Andy Serkis. We started with him as a person and evolved him. You can see that before the ring corrupted him, this used to be a human being," said senior producer Kai Fiebig. [There are storytelling possibilities that are not present in the film. We need characters that you could almost love, but on the other hand, we also need characters that you could really fear. And in some ways, believe me, you will fear him."

Edge says of "The Lord of the Rings": Also, Gollum himself does not have many special abilities or skills: Daedalic says that after centuries of surviving alone, it does not make much sense to have Gollum learn new skills now. Instead, the focus will be on the duality of the character, the constant conflict between Gollum and Sméagol's side. But it will not be created in the context of simple good versus evil.

"It's not just a choice between Sméagol or Gollum. Each personality is under attack from the other, and each must defend himself," said designer Martin Wilkes. The game tells a complete story around the beginning of The Lord of the Rings, but the path you take to get there changes depending on the choices you make."

Lord of the Rings Gollum is currently scheduled for release in 2021.
