Epic Games Store Opens 2020 with Three Free Games

Epic's 12 Days of Free Games has ended, but the store is giving away three free games early in the new year. The holiday sale, which was scheduled to end yesterday, has been extended, so there's another week to grab discounts on the latest titles, including "Control" and "Red Dead Redemption 2."

Slaughter your way through post-apocalyptic cities and monster-infested fantasy worlds in this week's free games, ending with a leisurely tumble off a picturesque mountain. [The first two "Darksiders" games, available in Warmaster and Desfinitive editions, were the best of the series, peaking with the second, but seem to be picking up a bit thanks to the spin-off "Darksiders Genesis." If you're looking for a more linear action-adventure experience, you'll probably have plenty of fun with the first one, while the sequel tends more toward open-world RPGs and can be played as a sad goth boy.

If all you want to do is slash it up on the slopes (and I promise you'll recover, since the year has only just begun), Steep has you covered. With open-world winter sports, you can ski, glide in a wingsuit, or enjoy an exhilarating workout in the absence of a single demon.

All three games are free until January 9.
