Yakuza Empire" is a mafia management sim with turn-based shootouts.

RockGame S.A., an Ineed Studios company, has announced its new turn-based strategy game, Yakuza Empire. The game depicts the turmoil of a mob of blood and vengeance, and you sit at the head of a criminal organization.

The first thing that comes to my mind is Sega's "Yakuza" games, but RockGame's depiction of the Japanese mafia seems much more serious (no karaoke bars in sight). It is also reminiscent of Romero Games' Empire of Sin. It features turn-based combat and gang management, but with more fedoras. [The trailer is pretty ruthless: someone is shot in the head at close range, another man is stabbed in the back, one man is hit with a baseball bat, and another falls to his death from the top floor of a high-rise building. Some of the common things in the criminal underworld also come up: illegal drug smuggling, fast sports cars, a bit of torture, bare-knuckle boxing, etc.

You can also take part in XCOM-style fights with turn-based combat. Unfortunately, the trailer does not show much turn-based gameplay, but there are snippets of action, such as a gunfight at a container dock.

Along with eliminating the competition, you'll need to manage your gang by hiring and training new recruits and building up your headquarters; according to RockGame, you'll need to upgrade parts of your base to make it more user-friendly, such as the "Kill Bill"-like Katana training room The genre is completely different, but Yakuza is a very different game. Although very different in genre, Yakuza Empire's interface is reminiscent of "This War of Mine," in which players control various members of a group by clicking on activity bubbles.

Yakuza Empire has a Steam page, but no release date has been set yet. Oddly enough, RockGame has three other games in development on Steam, all with no release date: Cowboy Life Simulator, Ninja Simulator, and the architectural adventure Scrapnaut. RockGame's games can be found on their official website.
